“About four months ago I ended the relationship with my biggest client. This basically was my bread and butter job, but I felt quite confident about it and was happy with my remaining clients. In addition, I wanted to finally register a formal business for my photography projects.
For the summer, I was looking forward to reaching out to some tourism boards and pitch ideas for possible collaborations. That’s what I did in February, when I created imagery for the tourism board of Madeira right before the pandemic started. After two good months, telling my friends that the pandemic hadn’t hit me financially, a general decline among all my clients and their budgets was noticeable, which resulted in a six week break without any jobs… I had to figure out something to keep myself from thinking too much about the lack of work – it’s really hard to accept free time as a negative result of something you can’t control. Working on personal projects that really fulfilled me helped me a lot to pass my time and find purpose.
As weeks passed by, I was slowly getting back on track and when Switzerland opened the borders again, the mountains were calling me. While browsing through my feed to find some inspiration for a long weekend in the mountains, I stumbled upon @zazzi.app. I think @zazzi.app provides a great opportunity to photographers as it somehow turns the business around. Most of the jobs and collaborations result from a photographer reaching out to a brand, which is always uncertain, time consuming and there is a lot of competition. This all becomes easier with @zazzi.app as now the businesses and people in general reach out to photographers to create something together. Obviously this is a great advantage and time saver for me as a photographer.
Creating and surviving as an artist in this new era comes with many more challenges. Yet, visual creators are adventurers who know how to adapt to the circumstances and always chase the light. We survive days of trekking with the very minimum in our backpacks and go through the roughest weather to get that shot. I truly believe that with the right mindset, we will succeed!”
